Charlotte Church appeared on "The V. Graham Norton Show" on Channel 4 in the U.K. on 16th January, 2003 at 2200 hours.
Despite many suggestions that Mr. Norton would be rude towards Charlotte, he was actually very nice and civil to her, and she was to him and they had a good laugh - at each others' expense too!
Charlotte also dressed fairly appropriately for the Show, in Combat-type trousers, boots, and an off-the-shoulder see-through fishnet type top, she also wore quite heavy black make up around her eyes with her hair tied around behind her. She looked every inch the budding Pop Star.
The interview was brief, although Charlotte asked Graham to apologise to her Nan (Maureen) for being rude about her (Charlotte) on a previous Show - which he did and went onto include a few other Celebrites on his list who he had been rude to!.
That over, there was a competition in the audience to find out who could reach the high notes, and when Charlotte tried, first of all she couldn't come out with any high-notes at all so Graham offered her a drink of water, but when she tried a relaxing technique, it came out - and she smashed her glass of water!
Three members of the audience were then chosen who had achieved something as a child to perform on the Show as an adult - one who did a "Morris" style dance, another who performed in a very tight red lycra all-in-one costume to dance to part of the theme from "War Of The Worlds", and a guy (the only one) who did an impression of Tarzan - complete with costume. Charlotte's part in the fun and games was to manage a "clap-o-meter" in accordance with the audience reaction - though the first one she "forgot" to move the lever!
She then went onto perform "The Opera Song"/"Brave New World", and she was quite stunning, she is beginning to try a few dance moves and looked liked "Charlie Church" - The Pop Star! She looked fabulous, sounded fabulous, and most importantly enjoyed herself immensely.
Not the turning point that some were expecting and hoping/not wanting to see this, but a clear indication that this is the direction in which Charlotte wishes to go - and before you ask (and rather disappointingly for us) the usual Surf of the Internet didn't happen - in fact Graham made a point of turning the P.C. off as soon as she walked on to be interviewed. Oh well, next time maybe..?!
Images and a video of her performing "The Opera Song", are now available in Real Player Format by clicking here - we will not be posting the whole video (some 30 minutes) as although Charlotte played a role, it was not really a major enough one in consideration of our Webspace. Check the Contents Page for her next appearance.
